Title: The Nutria Frog Kingdom
Author: Bayou Bennett
Illustrations: Pui Choi Lam, Caleb Johnson, Randy Volant, Alvin Forrest and Brian Cannady
The Nutria Frog Kingdom takes place in the magical swamps of Louisiana and instills in children an appreciation of nature. Thoroughly entertaining with colorful illustrations created by Bayou’s students at NYIT, the book encourages children to play a role in keeping Mother Earth healthy and strong – thus allowing mankind and all the creatures and plants to live in harmony.
I read this book to my 6 year old and she loved it. What I like about it is, the fact that after the story is done, there are pages for the kids to answer questions and draw themselves helping King Leo clean up the planet in different situations. There was also a music cd that came with the book that includes music by Washboard Leo Thomas. It had a very down by the bayou sound that although, may not appeal to some, it paired with the story very well. I would recommend parents read this book to their children to give them a sense of what pollution can do to the planet and how we can help by recycling and planting trees and other ideas to help reduce or reverse pollution.
